Last night at the beach...

The first three images in this slide show were made on the evening of June 25th, 2012 at Balmoral Beach inside Sydney Harbour. On a beautiful, still winters evening the beach was nearly deserted when I arrived. Only a lone swimmer leaving the water and padding across Balmoral's fine white sand to her towel.

The tide was very low and I could walk across rocks and through shallow pools to get to my shooting position. Up on the island I could hear a couple talking as they made their way along the track to the low cliff at the northern edge. Eventually, they appeared from behind the trees to stand and peer out across the harbour towards the heads.

Going out when most are going home is what still binds me to photography. Even though my mind is churning over shutter speeds and f-stops while I set focus and composition I know there will be the moments while the long exposures are made when I can feel the quiet wash of small waves and smell the rich salty air.

I hope you enjoy these pics - let me know if you have a favourite.
